EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
MARCH 20, 1985
1) Status of Coast Guard Property
Efforts are being made to arrange meetings with the Congressional Delegation during
the Conference of Mayors Annual Washington Assembly. The purpose is to familiarize
individual Legislators with the desirability and necessity for donation of the property
as opposed to purchase. We are also structuring a proposal to the State of Florida to
assist us in acquisition should these efforts fail.
2) Cheezem Development Agreement
Cheezem is anticipating approximately 1,500 people at their Groundbreaking
Ceremony, which is scheduled for March 19, 1985, at 6:00 p.m.
3) South Pointe Park
Phase I construction, which consists of the parking areas, roadways with lighting,
underground utilities, tree transplanting, irrigation feeders, park lighting, jetty
promenade and interior walkways, is approximately 58% completed.
Phase II construction, which consists of the amphitheater with a tensile structure
stage covering, adjacent support building with public restrooms, picnic shelters and
pavilion, vita course, observation towers, dune boardwalks, athletic field lighting,
irrigation systems and final landscaping, is approximately 18% complete.
The stables are due for occupancy on April 1, 1985.
This project is on schedule, and is within the approved budget that was appropriated.
4) Newman Contract
The audio/visual for South Pointe was presented at the Developers/Investors
Conference. Attendance at the Developers/Investors Conference for out-of-town
developers was approximately 30, and there were approximately 60 in-town
developers/investors who participated. A more complete report of the
Developers/Investors Conference will be outlined during the Agency Meeting.
5) SSDI Lawsuit
Judge Turner, in a Special Hearing, ruled in the favor of the Agency related to SSDI's
latest effort to gain the Agency's income. The City Attorney's Office will provide a
more complete report during the Agency Meeting. The Administration is continuing
efforts to begin negotiations on a scale of development on the upland properties.
6) Corridor Studies
Results of Halcyon, Land Design/Research, and Goodkin Research materials were
presented at the Developers/Investors Conference, and will be distributed to the
Agency Members upon completion.
7) Housing Authority Negotiations
The proposed agreement with the Housing Authority is scheduled for discussion on the
regular City Commission Agenda.

As you are aware, the Developers/Investors Conference was implemented,

as scheduled, last weekend
(March 14-17) and the response from partici-
pants, media and other observers generally quite positive.
Audio/Visual--The new audio/visual "South Pointe--a New Renaissance
for Miami Beach" was premiered at the Conference
March 15 and was well received. The 9-1/2 minute
presentation was originally projected in trans-
ferred film format to provide large-screen viewing
and also is available

in modes.
The tapes will be offered to interested developers
and investors either on loan or for purchase in
whatever format they desire.
Additionally we shall be planning a series of
presentations in Greater Miami to chambers of
commerce, civic clubs and other interested

Conference Pro9 ram--A printed program of Conference activities was produced,
cost-effectively utilizing the "shell " of a previously
prepared four-color promotional invitation.
Media Kits-- A comprehensive media kit was written, edited and assembled
ed
and distributed to 58 potentially interested South Florida,
national and trade publications and broadcast outlets.
Media Coverage-- A media briefing March 13 in the Mayor's conference ence room
was well attended and helped set the stage for the weekend
session. Both print and broadcast media attended and covered
the Conference sessions at South Shore Pavilion and Omni Hotel .
