Resolution 2020-31250 RESOLUTION NO. 2020-31250 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING DECISIONS OF MAYOR GELBER, COMMISSIONER RICHARDSON, COMMISSIONER STEINBERG, COMMISSIONER SAMUELIAN, AND COMMISSIONER MEINER TO VOLUNTARILY FOREGO THEIR SALARY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, 2020, AS SET FORTH IN THIS RESOLUTION, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO REALLOCATE THE SPECIFIED FUNDS TO THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND OPERATING BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019-2020. WHEREAS, on March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus("COVID-19")a pandemic, acknowledging what has seemed clear for some time—the virus will likely spread to all countries on the globe; and WHEREAS, the rate of infection throughout the world and in the US has accelerated rapidly, grinding most businesses around the globe to a halt; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, which heavily depends on tourism, has been significantly impacted by COVID-19, suffering significant losses in revenue; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2.02 of the City Charter,the annual compensation(i.e., salary)for the Office of Commissioner is six thousand dollars ($6,000), and the compensation for the Office of Mayor is ten thousand dollars ($10,000); and WHEREAS, in an effort to aid the City in savings costs, select members of the City Commission and the Mayor have elected to voluntarily forego their salaries for the month of May 2020; and WHEREAS, Commissioner David Richardson has elected to voluntarily forego compensation for the month of May 2020, in the total amount of$2,250; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Samuelian has elected to voluntarily forego compensation for the month of May 2020, in the total amount of$3,115; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Steven Meiner has elected to voluntarily forego compensation for the month of May 2020, in the total amount of$2,250; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Steinberg wrote a personal check to the City of Miami Beach for a total amount of$2,250, equivalent to her compensation for the month of May 2020; and WHEREAS, Mayor Dan Gelber has elected to voluntary forego compensation for the month of May 2020, in the total amount of$2,769; and WHEREAS, accordingly, the Office of Management and Budget will make payroll adjustments for the Mayor and Commissioners Richardson,Samuelian,and Meiner,and allocate the funds specified herein, including Commissioner Steinberg's personal donation,for the City's General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2019-202. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby acknowledge decisions of Mayor Dan Gelber, Commissioner Richardson, Commissioner Steinberg, Commissioner Samuelian, and Commissioner Meiner to voluntarily forego their salary for the month of May 2020, as set forth in this Resolution, and authorize the City Manager to reallocate the specified funds to the City's General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2019-2020.
