I spoke with Commissioner Gongora last week and he has decided not to do a salary reduction but instead to make a
direct contribution to a charity of his choice without involving the City. I am closing my file on this topic.

FLORIDA,ACKNOWLEDGING DECISIONS OF MAYOR GELBER,COMMISSIONER RICHARDSON,
COMMISSIONER STEINBERG, COMMISSIONER SAMUELIAN,AND COMMISSIONER MEINER TO
VOLUNTARILY FOREGO THEIR SALARY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, 2020,AS SET FORTH IN THIS

RESOLUTION,AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO REALLOCATE THE SPECIFIED FUNDS TO THE
CITY'S GENERAL FUND OPERATING BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019-2020.

ACTION: Resolution 2020-31250 adopted. Motion made by Commissioner Gongora to adopt the
Resolution;seconded by Commissioner Samuelian;Voice vote:7-0. Michael Smith to handle.
Commissioner Gongora stated that he separated this item for a brief discussion. He plans to do
something like a hybrid of what Commissioner Arriola (Item C7 A),and what the other Commissioners
are doing. Rather than forgoing the money and putting it back into the General Budget, he debated
where to donate his money. He wants to know if it is legal to donate the money to the rental assistance
program. He did not want people to think that he is not helping. He would like to be added and do an
after-the-fact Resolution once he decides where the money will go.
Rafael Granado,City Clerk,stated that an after-the-fact Resolution will be drafted for Commissioner
Gongora,and it will be recorded in the After Action as item C7 C.
Commissioner Arriola thanked Commissioner Gongora for helping. He agreed with Commissioner
Gongora that it is hard to decide where the donated funds will go. Commissioner Arriola opined that it
was best to have the money go directly to the source,to prevent taxes being taken.As the Miami Herald
got wrong about his donations, it takes a great deal of time to figure out where the money will go and
the logistics.
Commissioner Gongora stated that he will move the approval of item C7 B and will do a separate
after-the-fact Resolution for his funds:
Mayor Gelber stated that the motion to approve both Resolutions(C7 B and C7 C)was made by
Commissioner Gongora.
