Resolution 2020-31309 RESOLUTION NO. 2020-31309 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING FUNDING OF A MOCK SAT/ACT TEST ANNUALLY FOR MIAMI BEACH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $3,000; APPROVING FUNDING FOR EACH SUBSEQUENT SCHOOL YEAR, SUBJECT TO FUNDING APPROVAL DURING THE CITY'S BUDGETARY PROCESS; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY REQUIRED AGREEMENTS AND DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM. WHEREAS, in January 2008, the City of Miami Beach, Florida (the "City") entered into an Education Compact with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to enhance learning opportunities for youth; and WHEREAS, the Education Compact reflects the desire of the Miami Beach community to support excellence in the City's public schools; and WHEREAS, at the March 13, 2018 Finance and Citywide Projects Committee meeting, City staff was directed to review unfunded educational initiative projected costs with each school's Parent Teacher Student Association ("PTSA") executive board and the City's Committee for Quality Education to further prioritize potential enhancements for each school, including proposed enhancements raised during the City Commission Retreat on March 2018, such as STEAM, arts and music enrichment, and college/vocational counseling, as well as recommendations for the reallocation of funds for enhancements currently underway; and WHEREAS, at its May 26, 2020 meeting,the City's Youth Commission made a unanimous motion requesting the Mayor and City Commission to fund the mock SAT/ACT test for Miami Beach high school students as an additional educational enhancement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve the funding of a mock SAT/ACT Test annually for Miami Beach High School students, in an amount not to exceed $3,000; approve funding for each subsequent school year subject to funding approval during the City's Budgetary Process; and authorize the City Manager to execute any and all required agreements and documents to implement the program.
