SUBJECT: Retirement of Luis Garcia, Fire Chief
It is with regret that I have accepted the attached resignation letter from Fire Chief Luis
Garcia. As noted in the letter, Chief Garcia is leaving his position effective as of Friday,
March 26, 1999.
Luis was a valued asset to Miami Beach during his twenty-five year tenure, and we will
miss him. I know you join me in wishing him good luck and much happiness in his
retirement.
We will be commencing a recruitment that will consider both internal and external
candidates for the position of Fire Chief.

This memo is to inform you of my intention to retire from the City of Miami Beach Fire Department
effective March 26, 1999.
The City of Miami Beach has been a dear and important part of my life for nearly forty years. To
have been allowed to serve the citizens of my "hometown" for more than twenty five years is a
privilege that J will never forget.
J would like to thank the City Commission for the support afforded to this Officer during my tenure
as Fire Chief.
