COMPLETION OF'OPERATION- BOARDWALK

This Letter to the Commission is to provide an update on the conclusion of Operation
Boardwalk and the arrests made. Operation Boardwalk was a proactive enforcement task
force targeting the recent trend of robberies and quality of life issue on the Boardwalk.
Two subjects were arrested bythe Robbery Squad for the three separate Armed Robberies
with a Firearm. One subject was arrested for Robbery with Injury and Battery to a Person
over 65. Nineteen subjects were arrested for ddnking and urinating in public. Thirty-Four
Field Interviews were documented on suspicious persons loitering on the Boardwalk. This
accumulated to a total of 7 Felony arrests and 19 Misdemeanor arrests.
The Cdme Prevention Unit also conducted a secudty survey of the Boardwalk. There are
several areas which have high shrubs and trees which isolate the boardwalk from the
hotels and provide a visual barrier. This high landscaping tends to provide cover for those
contemplating cdminal activity. Many sections of the Boardwalk also have a sizeable
quantity of debris in plain view (items associated with the homeless - clothes, chairs, food
wrappers, cans and bottles). Many of these items are under the Boardwalk and located in
the Sea Oats. Specific locations of these problem areas were provided to Public Works
and remedial actions completed.
Following the conclusion of Operation Boardwalk, Patrol Officers will be assigned to Park
and Walk details on a regular basis.
