SUBJECT: Free Tax Preparation Services
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to advise you that the City will again offer free tax
preparation services for residents and employees whose household income does not exceed
$57,000.
Tax preparation services are being offered by appointment February 1 - April 15, 2021 at the
Office of Housing and Community Services (555 17 Street). The City is partnering with Branches,
Inc. and the Internal Revenue Services via the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Information about the VITA program is attached in English and Spanish.
Residents and employees who would like an appointment for tax preparation services should call
the Office of Community Services at 305.673.7491. Tax preparation services will be offered
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays during tax season via in person (when possible)
or drop off method. Residents and employees are reminded to bring the following documents to
their appointment:
• Valid government-issued identification card
• Social Security card for all persons declared as dependents in the tax return
• All 2020 W-2s and information for other income
• Bank account information for direct deposit of refund
• Forms 1095-A, B or C (AGA Statements)
• Total paid to day care providers and their tax ID number
• Copy of last year's tax return
• Identity theft PIN (if applicable)
• Birth dates for you, spouse and/or dependents
Last year, the City served more than 420 households with free tax preparation services and
obtained in $383,550.00 in refunds.
