Ordinance 2020-4370 ORDINANCE NO. 2020-4370 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE MIAMI BEACH CITY CODE, ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION," BY AMENDING ARTICLE III, ENTITLED "AGENCIES, BOARDS AND COMMITTEES," BY AMENDING DIVISION 30, ENTITLED "COMMITTEE FOR QUALITY EDUCATION IN MIAMI BEACH SCHOOLS," BY AMENDING SECTION 2-190.137 THEREOF, ENTITLED "COMPOSITION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE" TO REFLECT THE NAME CHANGE OF SEVERAL MIAMI BEACH SCHOOLS; AND, PROVIDING FOR REPEALER, SEVERABILITY, CODIFICATION, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the purpose of the Committee for Quality Education in Miami Beach Schools is to guide the City's efforts toward providing the best education possible in Miami Beach public schools; and WHEREAS, on June 19, 2019, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board approved the renaming of Biscayne Elementary School, Fienberg/Fisher K-8 Center, Nautilus Middle School, and South Pointe Elementary School; and WHEREAS, accordingly, Section 2-190.137 of the City Code, entitled "Composition, Knowledge and Experience," must be amended to reflect the name changes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. Section 2-190.137 of Division 30, of Article Ill, of Chapter 2 of the City Code, entitled "Administration," is hereby amended as follows: CHAPTER 2 ADMINISTRATION * * * ARTICLE III. AGENCIES, BOARDS AND COMMITTEES * * * Division 30. Committee For Quality Education in Miami Beach Schools * * * 0 Sec. 2-190.137. Composition; knowledge and experience. The committee shall consist of 15 voting members and three nonvoting ex officio members to be comprised as follows: (1) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of North Beach Elementary. (2) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Biscayne Beach Elementary. (3) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Miami Beach Feinberg-Fisher K-8 Elementary. (4) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Miami Beach South Pointe Elementary. (5) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Miami Beach Nautilus Middle School. (6) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Miami Beach High School. (7) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Ruth K. Broad K-8 Elementary School. (8) A representative selected by the Parent Teacher Association of Treasure Island Elementary School. (9) Seven members of the public with knowledge or expertise with regard to education issues who shall be direct appointments by the mayor and each city commissioner with no more than three who can be employed or contracted by Miami-Dade County public schools. The city commission shall designate two of its members to serve as city commission liaisons who shall report to the city commission actions of the committee for quality education; the city manager shall further designate a member of city staff to serve as a liaison who shall report the committee's actions to the city manager. * * * SECTION 2. CODIFICATION It is the intention of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, and it is hereby ordained that the provisions of this ordinance shall become and be made part of the Miami Beach City Code. The sections of this ordinance may be renumbered or relettered to accomplish such intention, and the word "ordinance" may be changed to "section," "article," or other appropriate word. SECTION 3. REPEALER All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. SEVERABILITY If any section, subsection, clause or provision of this Ordinance is held invalid, the remainder shall not be affected by such invalidity. SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE.
