A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA REQUESTING THAT
THE DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD REJECT THE
PROPOSAL TO TRANSFER ALL BAY HARBOR, BAL
HARBOUR, AND SURFSIDE STUDENTS TO THE HIGHLAND
OAKS JUNIOR HIGH.
WHEREAS, a group of parents have petitioned the Dade
County School Board to send 7th through 9th grade students who
reside in. Bay Harbor , Bal Harbour and Surfside to Highland Oaks
Junior High School.
WHEREAS, the loss of Bay Harbor , Bal Harbour and
Surfside students would have a negative . impact effect upon the
academic programs of Nautilus Junior High School and Miami Beach
High School; and
WHEREAS , the loss of . Bay Harbor , Bal Harbour and
Surfside would effect the historic fraternization of Miami Beach,
Bay Harbor , Bal Harbour and Surfside students; and
WHEREAS , the removal of these Bay. Harbor , Bal Harbour
and Surfside students will diminishthe interactions and
relationships of those families to private, religious and business
institutions on Miami Beach.
WHEREAS, the removal of the Bay Harbor , Bal Harbour and
Surfside students from our feeder •pattern would adversly impact the
ethnic balance of the Miami Beach Schools.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH requesting that the Dade County School
Board reject the proposal to transfer Bay Harbor , Bal Harbour and
Surfside students to the Highland Oaks Junior High.
