RESOLUTION NO. 86-18335
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE UNITED STATES
CONGRESS TO CONTINUE TO FUND FEDERAL REVENUE
SHARING PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the United States Congress is currently considering the elimination
of the Federal Revenue Sharing program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach relies heavily upon Revenue Sharing as a
major source of funding for many vital and essential programs, including police and fire
protection and elderly hot meals; and
WHEREAS, the elimination of the FRS program would cost the City $1,565,894;
and
WHEREAS, the City is currently facing the potential of eliminating 63 police
officers and 12 medical doctors on Fire Rescue Units currently funded by FRS; and
WHEREAS, many Miami Beach constituents will be directly affected by the
elimination of the appropriations of FRS dollars to the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Miami Beach City Commission and
Administration urge the United States Congress to reconsider the proposed reduction of the
Federal Revenue Sharing program; and
BE IT ALSO DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission recommends to the United States
Congress that a sense of urgency exists regarding Revenue Sharing and, that the continued
funding of this program will reduce the possibility of financial disaster in the City.
