A RESOLUTION OF THE. CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA
REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS
DESIGNEE TO ENTER INTO NEGOTIATIONS WITH
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY AND
UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI TO BRING COLLEGE
BASKETBALL BACK TO THE MIAMI BEACH
CONVENTION CENTER.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, it would be most desirable for basketball to
return to the Miami Beach Convention Center ; and
WHEREAS, Florida International University has developed
an impressive basketball program which includes the largest field
house in South Florida and as NCAA Division I status commencing
with the 1986 basketball season; and
WHEREAS, the University of Miami also has an impressive
basketball team which could make use of the Convention Center ; and
WHEREAS, it would be desirable to have certain
designated Florida International University and the University of
Miami home games at the Miami Beach Convention Center,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission
of Miami Beach requests the City administration to enter into
discussions with Florida International University and the
University of Miami and determine the feasibility of returning
basketball to the Miami Beach Convention Center.
