Resolution 86-18386 • RESOLUTION NO. 86-18386 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING FEBRUARY 11, 1986, THE DAY OF THE RELEASE OF ANATOLY SHCHARANSKY, AS A DAY MARKING THE BEGINNING OF FREEDOM FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLE EVERYWHERE WHEREAS, Anatoly Shch•aransky, one of Soviet Russian' s best known dissidents, was released by the Soviet Union on February 11, 1986; and WHEREAS, Mr . Shcharansky upon arrival in Israel, was delivered a freshly issued passport made out to Natan Sharon, the Hebrew name that he long had vowed to adopt upon arrival in Jerusalem; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to honor the day of Mr . Shcharansky' s release. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that February 11, 1986 be recognized as a day marking the beginning of freedom for oppressed people everywhere, and representing hope for all; and the City Manager is hereby instructed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Prime Minister of Israel.
