Resolution 2021-31587 RESOLUTION NO. 2021-31587 1 i A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO REQUEST CASE DISPOSITION DOCUMENT(S) FROM THE MIAMI- DADE COUNTY CLERK OF THE COURTS REGARDING ALL FELONY CASES, MISDEMEANOR CASES AND TRAFFIC CITATIONS INITIATED BY THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Miami Beach Police Department ("Police Department") to utilize investigative best practices to prevent and solve crimes and unsafe behavior that takes place within its jurisdictional boundaries; and WHEREAS, at the January 19, 2021 Police Citizen Relation Committee ("PCRC") meeting, the PCRC recommended that the Administration submit a request to the Miami Dade County Clerk of Courts to provide the City with case disposition documents concerning all felony, misdemeanor, and civil infractions in an effort to be better track the outcome of cases initiated by the Police Department; and WHEREAS, additional statistics concerning criminal cases and traffic citations initiated by the Police Department can assist in identifying tools, policies and resources that can be utilized on an ongoing basis to mitigate the City's concerns with quality of life and criminal activity; and WHEREAS, obtaining the dispositions of criminal cases and traffic citations allow the Police Department to ascertain the effectiveness that prosecutions have in acting as a deterrent or mechanism of preventiveness on those individuals committing crimes within the City's jurisdictional boundaries; and WHEREAS, identifying crime and traffic data, in conjunction with case dispositions, serves as a legitimate law enforcement tool, and can be utilized to acquire a detailed understanding surrounding criminal conduct throughout the City, which permits the establishment of appropriate safety measures and other initiatives to ensure the welfare, health and safety of the City's residents and guests. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to request case disposition document(s) from the Miami-Dade County Clerk of the Courts regarding all felony cases, misdemeanor cases and traffic citations initiated by the Miami Beach Police Department.
