Resolution 86-18627 ^ r RESOLUTION NO. 86-18627 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE SECRETARY OF THE U.S . NAVY, THE HONORABLE JOHN LEHMAN, TO NAME A U.S. NAVY SHIP "THE U.S .S . MIAMI" . WHEREAS, the U.S Navy currently names ships after cities; and, WHEREAS, Miami qualifies under this criteria; and, WHEREAS, two previous navy ships proudly bore the name Miami ; and, WHEREAS, commissioning a new ship the "U.S .S . Miami" would honor those ships, the men who served them and the proud people of a proud City; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Secretary of the U.S . Navy, the Honorable John Lehman, is requested to name a U.S . Navy ship the "U.S .S. Miami" .
