A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI BEACH CITY
COMMISSION INFORMING THE ELECTORATE OF THE
NEED TO VOTE "YES" ON THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT
TO THE FLORIDA CONSTITUTION TO THE HOMESTEAD
PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION AT THE GENERAL ELECTION
ON NOVEMBER 4, 1986.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach
has joined in informing the electorate of the need to vote "Yes"
on the proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution to the
homestead property tax exemption at the general election on
November 4 , 1986; and
WHEREAS, a proposed amendment to the Florida
Constitution would, if approved by the voters, change the method
of applying the $25,000 homestead property tax exemption; and
WHEREAS, the proposed amendment would exempt the first
$5,000 of assessed value, plus 50% of the assessed value in excess
of $5,000 , the total exemption not to exceed $25,000; and
WHEREAS, all citizens and homeowners should pay
something for local governmental services; and
WHEREAS, this amendment would provide the local
government' s revenues to offset, in part, loss due to the Federal
Government' s change in Federal revenue sharing.
That the City Commission of the City of Miami
Beach urges the electorate to vote "Yes" on
the proposed amendment to the Florida
Constitution as a method of applying the
homestead property tax exemption to meet the
changing needs of government and to partly
offset the loss of Federal revenue sharing;
and
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to
distribute a copy of this resolution to the
media.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, to inform the electorate of the need to
vote "yes" on the proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution
to the Homestead property tax exemption at the General Election on
November 4, 1986.
