A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH AGREEING TO COMMIT TO PROVIDE TO THE
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS 1993 CONVENTION A
110, 000 SQUARE FOOT, AIR-CONDITIONED, PILLAR-FREE
STRUCTURE SHOULD THE CONVENTION CENTER EXPANSION NOT
BE COMPLETED
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach recognizes the value of
major conventions occurring in the City of Miami
Beach/Metropolitan Dade Area; and,
WHEREAS, the National Association of Realtors has committed
to bring. their 1993 Convention to the City of Miami Beach
Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, the National Association of Realtors requires a
commitment from the City of Miami Beach to provide a minimum of
110, 000 gross sq. ft . , pillar-free structure should the
Convention Center Expansion not be completed; and,
WHEREAS, the National Association of Realtors has agreed
that a 110,000 gross sq. ft. pillar-free air-conditioned tent
would be acceptable for the above purpose, in the event that the
Convention Center Expansion was not completed; and,
WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau
has agreed to reserve the amount required to defray the cost of
the 110, 000 sq. ft. , tent structure by a set aside of increased
resort tax revenues.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City agrees to commit
to provide the 110,000 sq. ft pillar-free air-conditioned
structure in the terms and conditions as hereinabove set forth.

Attached is' a Resolution agreeing to provide to the .1.993
National Association of Realtors (NAR) convention a minimum
of 110,000 square foot air conditioned, pillar free structure
in the event the Convention Center expansion program is not
completed. .
The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau has agreed
to reserve the amount required to defray the cost of renting
this structure by setting aside increased Resort Tax revenues.
It is estimated that the rental of the structure will cost ap-
proximately $4.25 per square foot which includes air conditioning.
Based on this estimate, rental of the structure will cost in
excess of $400,000.
Ifthe expansion is not completed, the NAR would use the north and
south convention halls plus a minimum of 38 meetingrooms in ad-
dition to the pillar free structure. Rental •of exhibit space will
be 60C per net square foot used with no minimum rental requirement
and the NAR will not incur any costs in connection with construction
of the temporary facility, if .int is required.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution agreeing to
commit to provide NAR 1993. convention with a 110,000 square foot
air. conditioned, pillar free structure if expansion is not
completed.
