Resolution 2021-31638 RESOLUTION NO. 2021-31638 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING MARCH 2021 AS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS, each year since 1987, Congress and a number of U.S. Presidents have declared the month of March as Women's History Month; and WHEREAS, most recently, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., issued a proclamation declaring March 2021 as Women's History Month; and WHEREAS, the proclamation recognizes as follows: "Courageous women marched for and won the right to vote, campaigned against injustice, shattered countless barriers, and expanded the possibilities of American life. Our history is also replete with examples of the unfailing bravery and grit of women in America, particularly in times of crisis and emergency. Women served our Nation during World War II, led organizing and litigation efforts during the Civil Rights movement, and represented the United States on the global stage in the fight for human rights, peace, and security"; and WHEREAS, International Women's Day is celebrated globally on March 8th of each year, in commemoration of the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women, and to educate the public on gender equality, gender-based violence, and other issues impacting women; and WHEREAS, this year, UN Women announced the theme for International Women's Day as "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world," in recognition of the uniquely important roles of women during the COVID-19 pandemic: "Women stand at the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic. The crisis has highlighted both the centrality of their contributions and the disproportionate burdens that women carry." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby declare March 2021 as Women's History Month in the City of Miami Beach.
