LTC 201-2021 Arrest in 2019 case 200 Block of Espanola WayOFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC# 201-2021 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission FROM: Alina T. Hudak, City Manag DATE: May 10, 2021 SUBJECT: Arrest in 2019 case/200 Block of Espanola Way On May 11, 2019 at approximately 0300 hours, Mr. Ameer Golston, an aspiring rapper from Chicago was brutally gunned down in the 200 Block of Espanola Way. The Miami Beach Police, Major Crimes Squad arrived at the scene, finding Mr. Golston deceased in the street, and were confronted with very few leads. The investigative team began to painstakingly follow the leads and were able to identify a possible subject with the assistance of the Chicago Police Department/FBI Gangs South Task Force and CPD Intel Unit. For almost two years, MBPD detectives continued to diligently build the case with collaboration from their partners in Chicago. Through their unyielding effort and dogged tenacity, the MBPD MCU Investigative Team, led by Lead Investigator Al Porro, were successful in developing a solid case and obtained an arrest warrant for Austin Hall for the crime of First Degree Murder. Detective Porro quickly coordinated with the CPD elements to have 24/7 surveillance on the subject. Detectives traveled to Chicago and met with CPD/ FBI task force, and the subject was taken into custody on 05/04/2021. The subject is a multiple violent offender who has confirmed ties to Chicago area gangs. The success of this investigation is directly tied to the overwhelming desire of our MBPD Major Crimes Unit Detectives to bring closure to Mr. Golston's family and their unwillingness to allow the murderer to evade justice. The combined investigative team left no stone unturned and work throughout the COVID 19 Global Pandemic to reach this successful outcome. The arrest and apprehension of subject could not have been done without the MBPD MCU's investigative work and help and dedication of the Chicago Police Department and especially the Gangs South Unit.
