BUILDING DEPARTMEN¥- DERM ASBESTOS REPORT REVIEW SEMINAR
In an ongoing effort to streamline the Development process, the Building Department and
the City Administration, at the continuing behest of Commissioner Saul Gross in his
previous role as Chair if the Business Resolution Task Force (BRTF) has sought
efficiencies and process improvements.
To that end, on December 15, 2003, staff and Commissioner Gross met with DERM
officials to disCuss asbestos report reviews. The Engineering Section of the Building
Department is scheduled to attend asbestos report review training at DERM on Monday,
February 2, 2004. Once the training is completed, all applications for alterations,
remodeling and demolition permits with an asbestos survey that clearly indicates no
asbestos in the planned work area will be approved here in the City without DERM's
approval.
Once the training is completed, the City will be able to accept "no asbestos" reports rather
than re-directing customers to the Miami-Dade County DERM offices in Downtown Miami.
