ANALYSIS Please place on the July 28 Commission agenda, a discussion/take action item on the Style Saves Back-to-School Event Venue Request. Style Saves, is a Miami Based 501(c) nonprofit organization who is seeking the Miami Beach Convention Center as an event space for their 10th annual back-to-school event in which 10,000 students from Miami Dade Public Schools, homeless shelters, foster care, and numerous other organizations will receive uniforms, backpacks, school supplies and more for the upcoming school year. When a child begins the school year with new clothes, shoes, and supplies, it levels the field for them to make that start on the right foot and feeling confident. At this event, they are planning to have 10,000 students in total; 4,500 of which are Miami Beach residents. Their volunteer database includes 5,000 people, 2,500 of which are registered Miami Beach residents. The event is set for August 14-15 but they would require use of the space August 12-16 to allow for set up and clean up. To my understanding, Style Saves is requesting a rental fee waiver in the amount of $39,125. This is minimal compared to the past rental waiver fees that the Commission has done for the 2020 Super Bowl which was $857,540.80 and for the 2017 Major League Baseball All- Star Fan Fest which was $130,000.
