SUBJECT: Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project Update
I am pleased to announce that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will begin their next
beach renourishment project in the upcoming weeks . This $40,468,000 project is fully funded by
the federal government and will address the erosional hotspots in the vicinity of 64th Street, 55th
Street, 46 th Street and 27th Street. The City will be hosting a virtual public meeting on October 7,
2021 at 5:30 p.m.

The contractor, Continental Heavy Civil Corp, will be trucking in approximately 835,000 cubic
yards of sand from an inland mine in central Florida. The contractor is finalizing the construction
submittals and schedule with the USACE and it is anticipated that the contractor will begin
mobilization by the end of October and construction will commence in November. The contractor
will begin work at 64th Street and once this section is complete will move to the next section. The
project is estimated to be complete by April 2023. Updates will be provided as details regarding
the schedule and construction timeline are received.
