A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, CREATING AN AD HOC HOST COMMITTEE
FOR THE MARCH 2022 ASPEN IDEAS CLIMATE CONFERENCE, TO BE
HELD IN MIAMI BEACH, IN ORDER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE CITY'S
HOSTING OF THE CONFERENCE; PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES, MANNER
OF APPOINTMENT, AND THE TERM OF OFFICE OF HOST COMMITTEE
MEMBERS; ESTABLISHING THAT THE CITY'S HOSTING OF THE 2022
ASPEN IDEAS CLIMATE CONFERENCE SERVES A PUBLIC PURPOSE;
AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS MADE TO THE CITY
FOR THE CITY'S HOSTING OF THE CONFERENCE; AND AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO MAKE SUCH EXPENDITURES
AND/OR REIMBURSEMENTS FROM THE AFORESTATED DONATIONS IN
FURTHERANCE OF AND CONSISTENT WITH THE HOSTING OF THE
CONFERENCE.
WHEREAS, the Aspen Institute is a global nonprofit organization committed to realizing a
free, just, and equitable society that drives change through dialogue, leadership, and action to
help solve the most important challenges facing the United States and the world; and
WHEREAS, the primary roles of the Aspen Institute include the gathering of diverse,
nonpartisan leaders, creatives, scholars and members of the public to address some of Jhe
world's most complex issues or problems, and to have a meaningful impact beyond the mere
conference room meeting in order to provoke and improve those actions that should be taken
throughout the World, and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Institute has taken the necessary steps to bring together thoughtful
people with diverse backgrounds and points of view, cultivated and supported values -based land
purpose -driven leaders in many communities, and have turned emerging ideas into action iand
impact for individuals and the greater good of society; and
WHERAS, the Aspen Institute accomplishes it's mission through conferences and events
that invite the public to engage with experts and each other; programs that drive change on global
and domestic challenges; leadership programs that build networks and values -based leaders! that
drive action in their communities and businesses; youth leadership programs that foster 'civic
engagement and active citizenship among young leaders; seminars in which experts and leaders
reflect, connect, and share ideas; international partners in 11 nations that address global
challenges and develop civil society; media resources that promote innovative thinking; and
solutions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is a world renowned international tourist destination
at the forefront of those adverse impacts stemming directly from climate change, which the City
has a prominent role in recognizing the importance of this subject matter and whose impact's the
Mayor and City Commission have taken great efforts to mitigate; and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Institute holds various virtual and live events in different U.S. cities
and the 2022 Aspen Ideas Climate Conference to be held in March of 2022 in the City of Miami
Beach, will be a featured global event that is of critical importance to the City and address those
negative impacts surrounding climate change throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, the hosting of the 2022 Aspen Ideas Climate Conference in the City of Miami
Beach will promote tourism, art, and culture in the City, will provide public benefits and generate
revenue for local businesses, and serves a public purpose; and
WHEREAS, the creation of a Host Committee to raise funds for the City's costs in hosting
the 2022 Aspen Ideas Climate Conference serves the aforestated public purpose, and is a direct
public benefit to the City; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of the public purpose served by the City's hosting of the 2022
Aspen Ideas Climate Conference, the Mayor and City Commission authorize the acceptance of
those donations in furtherance of this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission further authorize the City Manager, or
designee, to make any and all necessary reimbursements and/or expenditures of the donations
in furtherance of and consistent with the City's hosting of the 2022 Aspen Ideas Cliiate
Conference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. The City of Miami Beach's hosting of the March 2022 Aspen Ideas Climate
Conference in the City of Miami Beach serves a public purpose.
2. An Ad Hoc Host Committee for said 2022 Aspen Ideas Climate Conference is
hereby created, whose purpose is to raise funds for the City's costs in hosting the
2022 Conference.
3. The Ad Hoc Host Committee shall be composed of up to twenty-five (25) members
to be direct appointees of the Mayor.
4. Ad Hoc Host Committee member terms shall commence on September 20, 2021,
for a term that shall extend through and including March 31, 2022 (subject to earlier
or later sunset by the City Commission).
5. The City is hereby authorized to accept donations for this public purpose, and the
City Manager, or designee, is authorized to make such expenditures and/or
reimbursements from the donations in furtherance of and consistent with the
aforestated public purpose served by the City's hosting of the 2022 Aspen Ideas
Climate Conference.
