A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY `COMMISSION OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, DECLARING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2021 AS BREAST CANCER
AWARENESS MONTH IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, except for skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among
women in the United States; and j
WHEREAS, in 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to
be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 49,290 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer;
and
WHEREAS, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign
promoted by leading nonprofit and government agencies to increase awareness of the disease; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to recognize and proclaim the month nth of
October 2021 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, increasing the public's knowledge about the importance of early detection of breast
cancer diagnosis and treatment can save lives; and

WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness month is an opportunity to unite all citizens in our
community to prevent breast cancer deaths through increased education and regular screening; and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society organizes annual Making Strides Against Breast
Cancer ("MSABC") Walk across the country in celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope
and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love; and
WHEREAS, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk raises money for breast cancer research,
education, advocacy, and patient services, with all proceeds sourced solely toward breast cancer funding;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission encourage citizens to help save lives from breast
cancer by participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Miami at LoanDepot Park on
October 23, 2021.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and the City hereby declare the month of
October 2021 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Miami Beach.
