Resolution 2021-31958RESOLUTION NO. 20 2 1- 3 1 9 5 8 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PUBLICIZE, ON THE CITY'S POLICE DEPARTMENT WEBSITE, ALL INFORMATION NECESSARY IN ORDER TO ADEQUATELY ADVISE HOW ANY MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC MAY VIEW OR ATTEND CRIMINAL COURT HEARINGS REGARDING PERSONS ARRESTED FOR CRIMINAL OFFENSES COMMITTED WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH; AND FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WEBSITE, PERTAINING TO SIGNIFICANT COURT RULINGS OR OUTCOMES, AS THE ADMINISTRATION MAY DEEM APPROPRIATE. WHEREAS, each day many tourists and other visitors arrive in the City and, unfortunately, an unacceptably large number of such individuals commit criminal offenses while within the City; and WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade State Attorney's Office is the entity responsible for the prosecution of all persons arrested for the commission of any felony, misdemeanor, and/or County ordinance violation(s) occurring in the City; and WHEREAS, the various Judges of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, in and for Miami -Dade County, preside over the criminal cases of all such arrestees; and WHEREAS, the commission of criminal offenses is not only potentially damaging to the City's reputation, but also adversely affects the lives of the City's residents and the experience of its tourists and visitors; and WHEREAS, many City residents and business owners have taken a keen interest in, and are profoundly concerned about, the progress and outcome of criminal cases as the cases proceed through the court system; and WHEREAS, the City maintains a website which provides the public with an abundance of information and materials with regard to a multitude of matters pertaining to the City and its residents; and WHEREAS, in order to further facilitate public access to the court system, it is important to provide the City's residents and business owners with the information necessary to view and/or attend court hearings either in person or by electronic means. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby direct the City Administration to publicize, on the City's Police, Department website, all information necessary in order to adequately advise how any member of the public may view or attend criminal court hearings regarding persons arrested for criminal offenses committed within the City of Miami Beach; and further, directing the City Administration to provide additional information on the Police Department website, pertaining to significant court rulings or outcomes, as the Administration may deem appropriate.
