Resolution 2022-32011RESOLUTION NO. 2022-32011 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE AD HOC NORTH BEACH CRA ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO EXPAND THE CITY'S ANNUAL PROGRAM FOR THE INSTALLATION OF ENHANCEMENT HOLIDAY LIGHTING, TO SPECIFICALLY INCLUDE COMMERCIAL AREAS IN NORTH BEACH, INCLUDING TOWN CENTER; AND FURTHER, EXPANDING LIGHTING TO THE SHADE TREES THAT LINE MERIDIAN AVENUE, WITHIN THE FLAMINGO PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT, TO BEAUTIFY THE AREA, COMPLEMENT THE SAFE STREETS PROGRAM, AND , ENHANCE PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLIST SAFETY. WHEREAS, on January 13, 2021, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2021-31560, establishing the Ad Hoc North Beach CRA Advisory Committee (the "Committee") to ensure the continued participation by residents, business owners, and community representatives of the North Beach Redevelopment area, in connection with the North Beach CRA; and WHEREAS, at its December 15, 2021 meeting, the Committee discussed the City's installation of holiday lighting on trees along 71 st Street; and WHEREAS, several Committee members noted that the holiday lighting installation received positive community impact and feedback; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the positive impact resulting from the installation of holiday lighting along 71st Street, the Committee passed a motion recommending that the City Commission extend its annual program for the installation of enhancement holiday lighting, to specifically include commercial areas of North Beach, such as Town Center; and WHEREAS, on January 20, 2022, the Mayor and City Commission voted to approve Agenda Item C7 AS, accepting the recommendation of the Committee and approving the installation of enhanced holiday lighting iri North Beach, including Town Center; and WHEREAS, on January 20, 2022, the Mayor and City Commission also voted to combine Agenda Item C7 AS and C4 C; modifying Item C4 C, which was submitted as a referral to the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee; and adopting Resolution No. 2022-32011, as amended, that included the installation of lighting for the shade trees that line Meridian Avenue within the Flamingo Park Historic District, subject to a budget amendment that would include this additional expense; and WHEREAS, the lighting expansion to Meridian Avenue will beautify the area and complement the Safe Streets program, enhancing pedestrian and bicyclist safety. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby accept the recommendation of the Ad Hoc North Beach CRA Advisory Committee to expand the City's annual program for the installation of enhancement holiday lighting, to specifically include commercial areas in North Beach, including Town Center; and further, expand lighting to the shade trees that line Meridian Avenue, within the Flamingo Park Historic District, to beautify the area, complement the safe streets program, and enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
