July is Parks and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association
(NRPA) and all the ways parks and recreation has the power to transform our daily lives. This
year's theme for Parks and Recreation Month is "We Rise Up for Parks and Recreation," and
we want you to rise with us by participating in our month-long events. Visit one of our Parks and
Recreation Month events and share your experiences on social media using the #RiseUpJuly.
Event: Toddler Splash Bash

House: A Magical Journey Through Black History"

"Heroes in My House: A Magical Journey Through Black History" follows a young black child
who's just been assigned a project to research and present on an important figure from Black
History. The only problem? The history book has way too many choices! How can he choose the
right person from history to base his project on? All these choices can be a little daunting, and
like most kids his age, when he needs a little advice, he makes his way to Grandma's kitchen for
her words of wisdom. That's where things go a little unexpected. Turns out Grandma's kitchen is
MAGICAL and before he knows it, the titans of Black History have sprung from the pages of his
book and are there with him ... in the house! Aside from the well-known figures, he also meets
some surprising heroes he was never aware of before -some even closer to him personally than
he ever knew!
This is a feel-good show that educates while it entertains. Audiences will love learning about
aspects of Black History that many are not aware of, all while celebrating the myriad of
contributions Black Americans have made (and continue to make) to American History.

Our Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department invites all Miami Beach Seniors 55+ to attend
a beach themed dance party! Enjoy an evening of food, dancing, and summer fun! This event is
free, and transportation will be provided. Space is limited so please RSVP in person at North
Shore Park, Scott Rakow Youth Center, Flamingo Park, or to Kevin Cobas at
kevincobas@miamibeachfl.gov.

This event will give teens in grades 6th -12th the opportunity to have a free night of fun at the
Scott Rakow Youth Center. This will also give parents a safe place where their teens can socialize
with other youth. Teens will participate in activities such as bowling, video games, pool tables,
ping pong and laser tag.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 78th Annual Playground Revue themed
"In the Hands of Our Future". Enjoy performances of the many talented children who attend our
2022 summer day camps and watch them dance and sing to musical genres from the 50's and
beyond.
