A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE
RECOMMENDATION OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND
NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE AT THEIR JUNE 15,
2022 MEETING TO PARTNER WITH THE HISPANIC AFFAIRS
ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND ALMODOVAR MUSICA, LLC., FOR THE
PRODUCTION OF THE 2022 HISPANIC HERITAGE SALSA FESTIVAL
AT THE NORTH BEACH BANDSHELL AND THE ADJACENT PARK AS
PART OF THE UPCOMING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH.
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month runs each year from September 15
through October 15, and celebrates the accomplishments of Hispanic Americans, who
have enriched our culture and society and helped make the United States into the
incredible country it is today; and
WHEREAS, at its June 15, 2022 meeting, the Public Safety and Neighborhood
Quality of Life Committee passed a motion recommending for the City of Miami Beach
to partner with the Hispanic Affairs Advisory Committee and Almodovar Musica, LLC.,
for the production of the 2022 Hispanic Heritage Salsa Festival at the North Beach
Bandshell as part of the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month; and
WHEREAS, Miami Beach Salsa Festival is a community event that was created
by Melina Almodovar to celebrate Latin music and it's culture; and
WHEREAS, the Salsa Festival features Latin bands from all over — in 2021, the
festival featured Melina Almodovar, founder of the festival, along with Tito Puente Jr.,
Mofongo De Plena, Miami Room & Isabella Velasquez; and
WHEREAS, the event also features Latin food vendors and Latin visual artists,
focuses on the art of Salsa Music its importance to Latin Cultures around the world; and
WHEREAS, the 2022 Salsa Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday,
September 24, 2022, at the North Beach Bandshell and the adjacent park; and
WHEREAS, the City has a long history of partnering with the Hispanic Affairs
Committee in order to produce quality programming to commemorate Hispanic Heritage
Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby accept the recommendation of the Public Safety and Neighborhood
Quality of Life Committee at their June 15, 2022 meeting to partner with The Hispanic
Affairs Advisory Committee and Almodovar Musica LLC., for the production of the 2022
Hispanic Heritage Salsa Festival at the North Beach Bandshell and the adjacent park as
part of the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month.
