Gonzalez City Manager CRIME STATISTICS FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2004 From: Subject: This Letter to the City Commission is to provide information on Part 1 Crimes for the City of Miami Beach during the first sixty days of 2004. Part 1 Crimes include Homicide, Forcible Sexual Offenses, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglar, Larceny, and Motor Vehicle Thefts. The time period from January 1,2003 through February 28, 2003 was compared with the same time frame for 2004. The overall crime rate during these two months decreased by 0.74 percent. This general decline was due to a large reduction in Forcible Sexual Offenses (a 53.33% decrease) as well as more modest reductions in Larceny (6.16% decrease) and Auto Theft (8.81% decrease). While the overall amount of crimes in Miami Beach did not change significantly, there was a dramatic 64.45 percent increase in the number of arrests. The amount of calls for Police received by the Public Safety Communications Bureau was also compared during the same time period. This showed a twenty-five percent increase in the number of calls for Police service with January and February of 2003 having 20,693 calls and January and February of 2004 having 25,854 calls. In addition to receiving more calls for service from the public, Police Officers also issued 6474 moving violations (a 82.21% increase)and wrote 3645 parking tickets (a 102.28% increase).
