Subject: PreK Scholarship Program Lottery Results 2023-24 and Next Steps
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update you on the status of the City of Miami
Beach's Prekindergarten (PreK) Program for Miami Beach residents for the 2023-2024 school
year, approved at the December 8, 2021 Commission meeting. The Prekindergarten Program
will expand hourly access to high quality PreK providers by providing up to $3,000 to eligible
Miami Beach families.
A computerized lottery was held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 9a.m. to place all resident
applicants in a numerical order for scholarship receipt. Results from the lottery have been
posted on the City's website including family name, confirmation number, and lottery number
(Attachment A).
There are 110 Miami Beach residents who were assigned lottery numbers with the
breakdown of applications submitted below:
• 123 Applications Started
• 119 Applications Submitted
• 9 Applications Not Eligible
• 110 Lottery Numbers Assigned
There are currently eighteen (18) Prekindergarten provider partners (Attachment B) who
registered to join the City in its effort to expand access to quality early childhood education .
Funding for the 2023-24 school year is available to 158 eligible families . The City of Miami
Beach will re-open the application on January 4, 2023 to provide access to remaining
scholarship funds to community members who may have missed the deadline or are new to
Miami Beach on a first come first serve until all scholarship funds are assigned.
The PreK website located at www.miamibeachfl.gov/prek provides an overview of the
program, lottery results, and provider information (Attachment C). Staff from the Office of
Education and Performance Initiatives will continue to work with families and providers to
ensure PreK scholarship funds are encumbered and utilized for the 2023-24 school year as
anticipated. Additionally, the administration will continue to hold informational sessions for
interested Miami Beach families and PreK providers .
