A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO
INSTALL A SPOTLIGHT AT THE BASE OF THE "STARCHILD" SCULPTURE
LOCATED AT THE HENRY LIEBMAN SQUARE ON 41ST STREET & PINE
TREE DRIVE TO ILLUMINATE THE SCULPTURE AND BEAUTIFY THE 41ST
STREET CORRIDOR.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has commissioned FriendsWithYou, an art
collaboration of Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, to create a public artwork to debut
during the Miami Beach Art Week 2022; and
WHEREAS, on November 28, 2023, the City debuted a 50 foot metal sculpture named
"Starchild at the Henry Liebman Square on 41st Street & Pine Tree Drive; and
WHEREAS, the bright orange sculpture resembles a "falling star or comet imbued with
humanoid feature," and is meant to represent light, power, and nature; and
WHEREAS, installing spotlights at the base of the sculpture to illuminate it during the
night would further beautify the artwork and the 41 st Street corridor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the City Administration to install a spotlight at the base of the
"Starchild" sculpture located at the Henry Liebman Square on 41st Street & Pine Tree Drive to
illuminate the sculpture and beautify the 41 st Street corridor.
