ESTABLISHMENT OF DOG RUNS
During the Sutnick Hour at the City Commission meeting of April 1, 1998, a dog owner made a request that
the City provide dogs a safe place to exercise, unleashed, within Flamingo Park. Kevin Smth has been
meeting with several of the dog owners in the neighborhood to discuss the establishment of a "Bark Park"
in Flamingo Park.
I am pleased to inform you that as a result of the meetings and the highly cooperative spirit of the dog owners
who are residents of the Flamingo Park neighborhood, a plan is in place to address the request.
As indicated on the attached drawing of Flamingo Park, a dog run will be installed just south of the outer
west side of the baseball field stadium outfield fence. This fenced area will be completely enclosed with
4' chain link and a gate to permit access. The fence will match the one currently running along Michigan
Avenue in the same area. Per the attached quote from Murray Fence Company, the City's contractor, the
total cost, including repairs to the existing fence is approximately $3,360. In addition to the fence, proper
signage stating the rules ofthe "Bark Park", trash cans and a bench will be installed.
It is anticipated the dog run will be complete within the next 30 days.

been patrolling the park more regularly in order to reduce crime, and their enforcement efforts
officers have included requests that these owners discontinue this practice.

In light of these requests, dog owners have expressed an interest in the establishment of
sanctioned "dog runs" in designated areas throughout Miami Beach, such as Flamingo Park,
PineTree Park, North Shore Open Space Park or any other location deemed appropriate. As we
are proceeding with a Parks Master Plan, I would appreciate your reviewing the feasibility of
incorporating these runs into the Plan.
Until such time as the Parks Master Plan is finalized, I would also appreciate your considering
the establishment of temporary dog runs in designated areas.
