A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUIRING, AS PART OF THE FY 2024
BUDGET PROCESS, FOR THE CITY COMMISSION TO CONSIDER THE
CITY'S FY 2024 PROPOSED STATE AND FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE
APPROPRIATION REQUESTS, TO ENSURE THE CITY'S LEGISLATIVE
REQUESTS ARE IN LINE WITH THE CITY'S BUDGETARY AND
STRATEGIC NEEDS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach submits annual appropriation requests to the Florida
Legislature and federal government each year, and applies for many grants throughout the year;
and
WHEREAS, this year, the City's state appropriation requests were, on average, lower than
the average appropriation request made by other municipalities in Miami -Dade County; and
WHEREAS, state appropriation requests require engagement and support not only from
the City's district representative and state senator, but appropriation requests also require
approval by the Florida Legislature, and are subject to line item veto by the Governor; and
WHEREAS, for the foregoing reasons, state appropriation requests vary from year to year,
as the requests are based on the consideration of many factors, including the priority of the
requests relative to the City Commission's comprehensive legislative priorities, as well as the
professional assessment of the likelihood that any proposed request would be ultimately accepted
by the Florida Legislature and approved by the Governor; and
WHEREAS, in view of the importance of state funding to the City, the Mayor and City
Commission desire to require, as part of the FY 2024 budget process, for the City Commission to
consider the City's FY 2024 proposed state and federal legislative appropriation requests, to
ensure the City's legislative requests are in line with the City's budgetary and strategic needs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby require, as part of the FY 2024 budget process, for the City Commission to
consider the city's FY 2024 proposed state and federal legislative appropriation requests, to
ensure the City's legislative requests are in line with the City's budgetary and strategic needs.
