COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF, MIAMI BEACH;, FLORIDA,
ACKNOWLEDGING AND ' AUTHORIZING PRE-EXISTING
DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE ' , EDUCATION1 ;(D.A.R.E. )
CHECKING ACCOUNT WITH :AMERICAN SAVINGS AND LOAN
ASSOCIATION OF FLORIDA FOR THE . CRIMINAL
INVESTIGATION DIVISION,' SUCH D.A.R.E.;. FUND TO
PAY FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE , DRUG ABUSE
RESISTANCE EDUCATION PROGRAM. '
WHEREAS, _ a special police department Criminal Investigation
Division interest bearing account has been established with
American Savings and Loan Association of Florida'. to ' pay .for
expenses relating to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E. )
program; and
WHEREAS, the account is funded by private donations, and'
through fundraising activities; and,
WHEREAS, the fund will be administered internally by' the
Criminal Investigation Division of the Miami Beach '" Police
Department; and '
WHEREAS, one of the following two employees is authorized to
sign checks or make withdrawals from the account 'or make deposits
into the account: '
A. The Commander of the Criminal. Investigation Division.
B. The Executive Officer of the Criminal Investigation Division;
and
WHEREAS, the fund will be managed" in accordance with a .
procedure set forth by the Commander of the Criminal Investigation
Division and approved by the Chief of Police; and
WHEREAS, the balance of the account will be, provided annually
to the City Finance Department for recording in the City's
financial system. '
NOW THEREFORE, BE "IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR . AND "CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that , the City
Commission acknowledges" and authorizes the pre-existing D.A.R.E.
account of the Police Criminal Investigation Division established
to pay for expenses related to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education
program.

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION FOR THE COMMISSION TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND
AUTHORIZE A PRE-EXISTING DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION
(D.A.R.E. ) CHECKING ACCOUNT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission acknowledge
and authorize a pre-existing D.A.R.E. checking account.
BACKGROUND
The Criminal Investigation Division of the police department has a
special interest bearing checking account that has been established
wit the American Savings and Loan Association of Florida, to pay
expenses relating to the D.A.R.E. program. Funds are delivered
through private donations.
In order to properly account for and manage these private funds
within the City financial system, approval of the Commission is
required to authorize the account.
ANALYSIS
This account provides a useful service to the D.A.R.E. program and
helps purchase items otherwise unavailable.
CONCLUSION
This Resolution will bring this account into compliance with the
City's financial system.
