Resolution 93-21004 a,i i., • RESOLUTION N.O. 93-21004 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LETTER OF AGREEMENT AND TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,000 FROM THE JOSEPH H. AND FLORENCE A. ROBLEE' FOUNDATION. WHEREAS,the City Administration has diligently pursued funding sources necessary to address the needs of those persons who have been or will be displaced as a result of rapid gentrification from new investments, rehabilitation and construction initiated and undertaken by private investors and developers; and WHEREAS, in order to address this situation, the City prepared and submitted an app-lic-ation in the amount of $250,000 to the James L. and John S. Knight Foundation, for emergency relocation and rental assistance; and WHEREAS,in order to supplement this application,the City prepared and submitted a grant proposal in the amount of $10,000 to the Joseph H. and Florence A. Foundation; and WHEREAS, the City has been awarded $3,000 to address the needs cited above; and WHEREAS, in order for the City to utilize the $3,000 grant award from the Roblee Foundation, the City Manager must execute and return the attached letter from Roy T.Blair of Boatmen's Trust Company, as well as appropriate such funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby authorize the City Manager to execute the attached letter agreement. Further, the City Commission herewith authorizes the appropriations of funds received in the amount of $3,000 for emergency relocation and rental assistance. ROBLEE FOUNDATION. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: To adopt the attached Resolution which authorizes the City Manager to execute the letter from Roy T. Blair for the Roblee Foundation, and to appropriate the $3,000, received to be utilized for emergency relocation and rental assistance for families displaced in South Miami Beach. BACKGROUND: As you are aware, the City Administration has diligently pursued funding sources necessary to address the needs of those persons who have been or will be displaced as a result of rapid gentrification from new investments, rehabilitation and 'construction initiated and undertaken by private investors and developers. In order to address this situation, the City prepared and submitted an application in the amount of $250,000 to the James L. and John S. Knight Foundation for emergency relocation and rental assistance. The City expects to receive official notification regarding the award of this grant before the end of the year. In order to supplement this application, on August 31st, the City prepared and submitted a grant proposal in the amount of $10,000 to the Joseph H. and Florence A. Foundation. We are pleased to advise you that the City has been awarded $3,000 to address the needs cited above: Given the average amount of funds awarded per agency, we are pleased to have been awarded this amount. ANALYSIS: In order for the City to utilize the $3,000 grant award from the Roblee Foundation, the City • Manager must execute and return the attached letter from Roy T. Blair of Boatmen's Trust Company. CONCLUSION: ' The Administration requests adoption of the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute the letter agreement and appropriating funds in the amount of $3,000 from the Joseph H. and Florence A.
