RESOLUTION NO. 93-20989
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA URGING THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF METROPOLITAN
DADE COUNTY, THE GREATER MIAMI CONVENTION AND
VISITORS BUREAU AND OTHER COMMITTEES AND
ORGANIZATIONS CONCERNED WITH CRIME AND TOURISM
IN DADE COUNTY TO SUPPORT A COUNTY ORDINANCE
AND/OR FLORIDA STATUTE REQUIRING CAR RENTAL
AGENCIES LOCATED IN THE AREA OF THE MIAMI
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WHICH DO NOT ALREADY DO
SO TO PROVIDE A FULL TANK OF GASOLINE IN EVERY
RENTAL CAR.
WHEREAS, numerous tourists in Florida become victims of crime
on the streets and highways each year; and
WHEREAS, some rental car agencies located in the area of Miami
International Airport do not provide full tanks of gasoline in
vehicles which they rent; and
WHEREAS, tourists who rent cars in the area of the Miami
International Airport are often unfamiliar with locations of local
gas stations; and
WHEREAS, tourists who are unable to locate gas stations
readily or who run out of gasoline on the streets and highways are
at a greater risk of becoming victims of crime; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida are concerned with the safety of tourists in Dade
County and believe that the chances of their becoming victims of
crime can be greatly reduced by requiring rental car agencies
located in the area of the Miami International Airport which do not
already do so to provide a full tank of gasoline in rental cars;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission believe that the Board
of County Commissioners of Metropolitan Dade County, the Greater
Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and other committees and
organizations concerned with crime and tourism in Dade County could
assist in the effort to prevent crime by requesting and supporting
a Dade County Ordinance and/or Florida Statute imposing this
requirement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and
City Commission hereby urge the Board of County Commissioners of
Metropolitan Dade County, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors
Bureauand other committees and organizations concerned with crime
and tourism in Dade County to request and support a Dade County
Ordinance and/or Florida Statute requiring car rental agencies
located in the area of the airport which do not already do so to
provide a full tank of gasoline in rental cars.
