Resolution 94-21045 RESOLUTION NO. 94-21045 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, CALLING A PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER A REQUEST TO CO- NAME THAT PORTION OF THIRD STREET LOCATED BETWEEN WASHINGTON AVENUE AND COLLINS AVENUE AS BETH JACOB WAY. WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Jacob, which is located at 311 Washington Avenue, has requested that the portion of Third Street which is located between Washington° Avenue and Collins Avenue be renamed as Beth Jacob Way; and WHEREAS, on January 24,, 1994 the Rules and Special Events Committee recommended in favor of co-naming the aforestated portion of Third Street as Beth Jacob Way; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Article V of Miami Beach City Code Chapter 39, the Mayor and City Commission must now hold a public hearing to consider the aforesaid co-naming request. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a public hearing to consider co-naming that portion of Third Street which is located between Washington Avenue and Collins Avenue as Beth Jacob Way is hereby called to be held before the Mayor and City Commision- in their Chambers on the Third Floor of City Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida on February 16, 1994 beginning at 3: 15 ,p,m. , and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to publish appropriate Public Notice of the said Public Hearing in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Miami Beach, at which time and place all interested parties will be heard. Ca ton • City Mana•- ORSUBJECT: Co-Naming of Third Street to Beth Jacob Way • • Recommendation: • The Administration recommends that the City Commission call for a public hearing to consider a request by Congregation Beth Jacob to co-name Third Street between Washington and Collins Avenues Beth Jacob Way. Background: Congregation Beth Jacob, which was chartered in 1927 . Two years later, the building at 311 Washington Ave. was occupied, later to be expanded into a second building, at 301 Washington Ave. Beth Jacob owns the only properties which front on Third Street. in that block, and has asked to have that section of the street co-named Beth Jacob Way. Representatives of the Congregation said . they would hope to be able to announce the co-naming on Feb. 27, 1994 as part of the group's observation of the festival of Purim. Section 39-25 of Article V, entitled "Naming of Public Facilities and Streets" of Miami Beach City Code Chapter 39 (as amended) allows the City Commission to co-name .streets within the city based on recommendations. of the Rules and Special Events Committee, .and following a public hearing on the question. At its Jan. 24 meeting, the Rules and Special Events endorsed the Congregation's request, and recommended the Commission set a public hearing.
