A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO
REVIEW CURRENT FUNDING APPROPRIATED FOR THE MIAMI BEACH
SOCCER PROGRAM (THE "SOCCER PROGRAM") AND PRESENT
RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY COMMISSION, AT ITS MAY 2023
BUDGET WORKSHOP, REGARDING ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR KEY
IMPROVEMENTS TO THE SOCCER PROGRAM, FOR CONSIDERATION
AS PART OF THE FY 2024 CITY BUDGET.
WHEREAS, the City's Parks and Recreation Department currently runs the Miami
Beach FC Soccer Program (the "Soccer Program"); and
WHEREAS, this competitive Soccer Program consists of several teams in the U9-18
age groups, allowing for children aged 9 through 18 to play and compete in soccer; and
WHEREAS, the Soccer Program continually seeks to enhance its programming,
develop players, and recruit new players, with the ultimate objective of providing program
participants with the skills required to succeed on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, parents of players participating in the Soccer Program have made the
following requests for improvements to the Program, including the following:
• Field improvements such as capital projects to fully replace the two artificial turf soccer
fields at Flamingo Park;
• Equipment purchases (tents, goal posts, training equipment);
• Recruiting and retaining qualified coaches to elevate the Program;
• Creation of additional soccer fields;
• Expanded marketing of the Soccer Program;
• Funding for tournaments and travel; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to consider the foregoing as part
of the FY 2024 budget process, and request that the Administration be prepared to make
recommendations regarding the foregoing at the City Commission's May Budget workshop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby
request the Administration to review current funding appropriated for the Miami Beach Soccer
Program (the "Program") and present recommendations to the City Commission, at its May
2023 Budget workshop, regarding additional funding for key improvements to the Soccer
Program, for consideration as part of the FY 2024 City budget.
