U Parks & Recreation Updates Date: April 19, 2004 To: Subject: Battina for the Little LeaQue World Series The Miami Beach Sharks (11 and under) traveling baseball team's dream of traveling to the Little League World Series this summer just got closer. The team won the Triple-A Little League Competition played at the Carlos Pascual Baseball Academy in Miami this month, beating out International Academy 8-3. The Sharks beat six traveling teams from other area academies to get to the Triple-A playoffs. Travelina Basketball Teams Learn Touah Lessons in Orlando - Competition Update!! Three Miami Beach traveling basketball teams got a tough lesson recently: winning isn't everything. After beating out their competition at the Homestead PAL. tournament in February, the teams just weren't able to take the magic with them to the State Finals played in Orlando. They did, however, get to visit Universal Studios after their losses. Sprinq Eqqstravaqanza The traditional Egg Hunt was only part of the fun at the annual Spring Eggstravaganza at North Shore Open Space Park on April 1 Oth. There were also food, rides and music. The event drew over seven hundred eager kids and their parents. Pitch. Hit & Run Tests Baseball Skills Young sluggers (boys & girls 7-to-12 years old) could get to show their stuff at the Major League All Stars in Houston. It all starts with the Pitch, Hit & Run competition at Flamingo Park baseball field April 24 tho Winners will go to the sectionals and could make it all the way to Houston, Texas. Arbor Oav Observed With Invitation to Residents to Help Redesiqn Poinciana Park Members of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects will joined Parks department landscaping staff to lead residents through a charette April 17th to develop plans for a redesign of Poinciana Park. The sessions ran from 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden Auditorium. The Scott Rakow Youth Center after school proqram is selling car wash tickets for Relay for Life. The car wash is Saturday, April 24, 2004 from 10 am to 2 pm. Tickets are $5 for vehicles and $7 for large vehicles. Florida Panthers hockey player Mike VanRym, defensive man #26, made a guest appearance at the SRYC Ice Rink on Thursday, April 15, 2004 to promote open registration for hockey classes.
