RESOLUTION NO. 2023-32618
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING RESOLUTIONS NO. 2022-
32410, 677-2022, AND 008-2022, SETTING THE DATES FOR THE YEAR
2023 CITY COMMISSION MEETINGS, REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
MEETINGS, AND NORTH BEACH COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT
AGENCY MEETINGS BY RETROACTIVELY CHANGING THE MAY 31,
2023 PRESENTATIONS AND AWARDS (PA) MEETING DATE TO MAY 22,
2023; ADDING ONE (1) ADDITIONAL PA MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 27,
2023; AND, CHANGING THE DECEMBER 6, 2023 COMMISSION
MEETING TO DECEMBER 13, 2023.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2.04 of the Miami Beach City Charter, the City
Commission shall meet at such times as may be prescribed by Ordinance or Resolution;
and
WHEREAS, on November 16, 2022, the City Commission via Resolutions No. 2022-
32410, 677-2022, and 008-2022 set the dates for the year 2023 City Commission,
Redevelopment Agency (RDA), and North Beach Community Redevelopment Agency
(NBCRA) meetings, and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 2023, pursuant to Commissioner Arriola's request, the
City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2023-32486, rescheduling the March 15, 2023
Commission Meeting date to March 27, 2023; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 2023, the City Commission unanimously approved to
eliminate the practice of presenting Proclamations at regular meetings of the City
Commission, and provide for Proclamations to only be presented at standalone
Presentations and Awards (PA) meetings;
WHEREAS, the City Commission expressed the desire for such Presentations and
Awards meetings to be scheduled to take place every other month (six times per year);
WHEREAS, on March 27, 2023, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2023-
32554, adding a Presentations and Awards Meeting for April 17, 2023;
WHEREAS, on April 17, 2023, the City Commission, pursuant to Commissioner
Dominguefs request, gave direction to change the May 31, 2023 Presentations and
Awards Meeting to May 22, 2023.
WHEREAS, on May 17, 2023, the City Commission approved adding one (1)
additional PA Meeting on September 27, 2023 at 5:30 p.m., and changed the December 6,
2023 Commission Meeting to December 13, 2023.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that Resolutions No. 2022-
32410, 677-2022, and 008-2022, setting the dates for the year 2023 City Commission
Meetings, Redevelopment Agency Meetings, and North Beach Community Redevelopment
Agency Meetings are hereby amended by retroactively changing the May 31, 2023
Presentations and Awards (PA) Meeting date to May 22, 2023; adding one (1) additional
PA meeting on September 27, 2023; and, changing the December 6, 2023 Commission
Meeting to December 13, 2023.

SUBJECT: DISCUSS ADDING PRESENTATIONS AND AWARDS MEETINGS/
AMENDING THE 2023 CITY COMMISSION MEETING DATES.
ANALYSIS
O n February 1, 2023, the Mayor and City Commission unanimously approved to eliminate the
practice of presenting Proclamations at regular Commission meetings. Instead, the City Commission
will present Proclamations only at standalone Presentations and Awards (PA) meetings. The City
Commission expressed the desire for such Presentations and Awards meetings to be scheduled to
take place every other month (six times per year).
At the March 27, 2023 meeting, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2023-32554, adding
the PA Meeting for April 17, 2023, and deferred this item to the April 28, 2023 Commission meeting.
The item was not reached at the April 28, 2023 meeting, and placed on the May 17, 2023
Commission meeting for discussion.
We are proposing the following new dates be added as PA meetings: June 21, July 19, and
December 6 (we already had previously scheduled PA meetings on April 17, May 22 and October
25). Note that we are proposing to make the December 6 meeting a PA meeting and make December
13 a Regular Commission Meeting to give the newly elected officials more time to prepare.
On March 2, 2023, Commissioner Rosen Gonzalez requested to move the last Commission Meeting
in July (July 26), earlier in the month to make surmrer travel plans a little easier. One of our
proposals is to schedule a July PA meeting on July 19. However, if it works for Budget/Finance,
perhaps we can move the Regular Commission Meeting to July 19 and schedule the PA Meeting on
July 26. (Swapping the two dates.) The other option is that we schedule 5 Presentations Meetings
and not 6 this year - that is also allowed under the Ordinance 2023-4541.
