Commissioner Fernandez Letter to State Representative BasabeA L E X J. FERNANDEZ COMMISSIONER RECEIVED MAY 1 7 2023 CITY OF MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OE TI CITY CLERK March 30, 2023 The Honorable Fabian Basabe Florida House of Representatives Dear Representative Basabe: Just a quick note to thank you for your time yesterday. I am grateful that you have always made yourself accessible and available to discuss issues important to Miami Beach. Your continued support of the projects submitted by the City of Miami Beach for consideration during this session is greatly appreciated. As you requested during yesterday's meeting, I wanted to bring your attention to an important public safety project that could benefit from state funding. The Beachwalk is an important pedestrian promenade extending seven miles from South Beach to North Beach. As you know, our shared constituents prioritize enhancing public safety along our Beachwalk. The Miami Beach Police Department has identified the completion of its closed-circuit television project as an essential law enforcement tool along this pedestrian corridor. The City has already completed or is engaged in completing the closed-circuit television projects from 3" Street to 46 Street and 79 Street to 87" Terrace. However, the area of the Beachwalk from 46 Street to 79 Street remain incomplete and unfunded. It is estimated that we City will need approximately $3.1 Million to complete this project. The breakdown is as follows: Section I Middle Beach Beachwalk Section 2 North Beach Beachwalk 46 Street to 63' Street 63' Street to 79 Street $1,780,000.00 $1.295.000.00 Total Funds Needed $3,075,000.00 Public safety is our top priority. The residents of the City of Miami Beach will greatly appreciate your funding support for the completion of this important project - whether in its totality or by section. Thank you, Apo.d2pf Alex J.
