Resolution 2023-32704 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-32704 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PUBLISH MONTHLY REPORTS, ON THE OFFICIAL CITY OF MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT WEBPAGE, SETTING FORTH THE STATISTICAL DATA PERTAINING TO CRIMES REPORTED AND ARRESTS EFFECTUATED IN THE PRIOR MONTH, SORTED BY AREA OF THE CITY IN WHICH THE OFFENSE WAS COMMITTED, FOR ALL FELONY, MISDEMEANOR, AND CITY/COUNTY ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS; AND FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PUBLISH SUCH MONTHLY CRIME AND ARREST DATA REPORTS ON EACH PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE ("PSNQLC") AGENDA, IN CONJUNCTION WITH PRESENTING SUCH DATA AT EACH PSNQLC MEETING. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach (the "City") is a unique, coastal community which, due to a myriad of factors (including the influx of throngs of visitors each month), consistently experiences petty crime and quality of life offenses, along with some other more serious criminal law violations; and WHEREAS, the City is committed to reducing crime and repeat offenses, and bringing social services to those that may find it difficult to otherwise obtain such services; and WHEREAS the Police Department presently divides the City into four (4) distinct areas: Area 1 (south of Dade Boulevard); Area 2 (from Dade Boulevard to 63rd Street); Area 3 (from 63rd Street to the North end of the City; and Area 4 (the "ADCD"); and WHEREAS,the Police Department presently compiles statistical data pertaining to crimes and arrests within the four(4) areas of the City; and WHEREAS, statistical crime and arrest data can be utilized as an effective tool to acquire a detailed understanding surrounding the type of criminal conduct taking place in the City, along with where and when such crimes are occurring; and WHEREAS, such data can also assist in identifying any successes and any shortcomings in public safety, in addition to aiding in identifying any tools, policies and/or resources which may be utilized to further enhance public safety; and WHEREAS, many City residents and business owners have taken a keen interest in, and are concerned about, criminal activity, arrests, and the prosecution of criminal offenses taking place in the City; and WHEREAS, the publication and presentation of such crime and arrest data will also provide interested persons and stakeholders increased transparency; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to adopt this Resolution requiring the City Administration to provide critical crime and arrest data in order to obtain a more detailed understanding surrounding crime occurring in the City; and to aid the City Commission in determining whether any further legislative solutions, policies, and/or resources are necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the City's residents and visitors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to publish monthly reports, on the official City of Miami Beach Police Department webpage, setting forth the statistical data pertaining to crimes reported and arrests effectuated in the prior month, sorted by area of the City in which the offense was committed, for all felony, misdemeanor, and city/county ordinance violations; and further, directing the City Administration to publish such monthly crime and arrest data reports on each Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee ("PSNQLC") agenda, in conjunction with presenting such data at each PSNQLC meeting.
