RESOLUTION NO.' 2023-32817
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING OCTOBER 11 OF EACH YEAR AS
"NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY" IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, AND
ENCOURAGING THE CELEBRATION AND RECOGNITION OF THE LGBTQ
COMMUNITY AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR CITY.
WHEREAS, National Coming Out Day is celebrated annually on October 11 th, and was
first observed in 1988 to commemorate the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay
Rights, promoting a safe world for LGBTQ+ individuals to live truthfully and openly; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and
equal rights for all its residents, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression;
and
WHEREAS, coming out is an important process in the lives of LGBTQ individuals,
fostering self -acceptance, strengthening familial and social bonds, and promoting understanding
among all community members; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of creating a supportive and affirming
environment where all individuals feel safe to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity,
free from discrimination or prejudice; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is proud to have a vibrant LGBTQ community that
contributes significantly to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of our City; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to show their unwavering. support. for
the LGBTQ community, promote acceptance, and encourage a more inclusive society for all; and
WHEREAS, accordingly, in keeping up with the City's long-standing record as one of the
champions of inclusion and diversity, the Mayor and City Commission desire to designate October
11 of each year as National Coming Out Day .to wholeheartedly reflect the City's commitment to
represent and fight on behalf of all members of the LGBTQ community, including residents and
visitors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and the City
Commission of the City Miami Beach, Florida, hereby designate October 11 of each year as
"National Coming Out Day" in the City of Miami Beach, and encourage the celebration and
recognition of the LGBTQ community and their contributions to our City.
