The two officers worked as a team, writing code compliance referral forms on 46 vehicles. Each referral form included a picture of the vehicle in violation, vehicle description, location, and the disposition. The problem of abandoned vehicles had persisted because the owners had been moving their cars back and forth between the street and private property in order to avoid having them towed. By coordinating their efforts, these officers were able to successfully address the problem as 28 vehicles were cited, 20 vehicles were stickered, 14 vehicles were towed, 9 warnings were issued, two stolen cars were recovered, and one stolen tag was recovered. In the spirit of community policing, these two officers combined their problem solving efforts to address an area of repeated citizen concern. Police Officer Carol Graham and Code Compliance Officer Kelly Goeden should be commended for their initiative and dedication to the community policing philosophy of the Miami Beach Police Department and to the commitment of the Code Compliance Department to serve the community.
