It is a moment to assess how we have done and applaud the progress that the city has demonstrated to begin to put the problems of this season behind us. The city has made tremendous progress. The overwhelming law enforcement presence had its desired impact. The streets were under control. We and our customers certainly felt safe! Our cherished Ocean Drive demonstrated once again it can be a place where residents and guests gather during the beauty of March and simply and safely enjoy themselves. We salute the Mayor and Commissioner for their leadership and commitment to taking the steps necessary to create the desired environment. We commend their unequivocal decision to break up with Spring Break. Thank you. We thank the Administration for the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan that worked. Much effort was expended by so many. We are grateful to them all. A special and deeply felt tip of the hat to all our public safety personnel. Chief Jones and the police department, and all the law enforcement officers that supported, them deserve special thanks. We know that in many ways we are just getting started. There is much work to do. We can't waiver in our joint commitment to stay the course. We stand ready to work with the City's leadership to make sure the progress we have made is not lost in the days and weeks (and yes, year) ahead. Naturally, given the resources required during the Spring Break, we can't alpha/bravo everyday, but if we are to be really successful, we have to commit ourselves to a strong and CONSISTENT law and code enforcement presence 365 days a year.
