LTC 155-2024 Law Enforcement DayMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# 155-2024 TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: LETTER TO COMMISSION Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission Rickelle Williams, Interim City Manager� April 25, 2024 Law Enforcement Day The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (L TC) is to provide details about the upcoming Miami Beach Police Department 2nd annual Law Enforcement Officer Day (LEO Day) in collaboration with the 100 Black Men of South Florida. This event offers a unique opportunity for youth to interact with law enforcement officers and gain valuable insights into their roles and responsibilities. LEO Day will be held in the Major James Smith Community Room located in the lobby of the Miami Beach Police Department (1100 Washington Avenue) on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. Approximately fifty mentees from the 100 Black Men of South Florida Leadership Academy will be attending LEO Day. The event aims to promote positive interactions and improve understanding between youth and law enforcement. Mentees will have the chance to learn about the Miami Beach Police Athletic League, Police Explorer Program, and Specialized Units, as well as engage in hands-on activities on the Police Department training simulator. This event is designed to provide mentees with a better understanding of the challenges and rewards associated with a career in law enforcement. By fostering positive relationships and empowering youth with knowledge about the crucial role law enforcement plays in our communities, we hope to build trust and create a more harmonious relationship between law enforcement and the community.
