With support from the City, MBCDC entered this nationwide competitive process requesting a grant under this program for the purpose of acquiring and rehabilitating the Femwood Apartments, at 935 Pennsylvania Avenue, to provide 18 units of supportive housing for persons living with AIDS. The successful outcome of MBCDC's application is the culmination of an effort in which the City has been an active partner. On July 1, 1998, the City Commission adopted a resolution issuing a Certification of Consistency with the Consolidated Plan for this initiative. Moreover, MBCDC has committed to this project up to $500,000 of the HOME Program funds allocated to them by the City. This strong support from the local government facilitated the success of the application and allowed MBCDC to leverage funds directly from U.S. HUD on a 2 to 1 ratio to the federal funds allocated by the City. The Femwood Apartments represents yet another major effort in the collaboration of the City with MBCDC as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) to provide quality affordable housing to our community. The Femwood Apartments is expected to be completed within 24 months. SP-/C MC/R DC C: Christina M.
