A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RETROACTIVELY
APPROVING THE CHILDREN'S CANCER CARING CENTER'S
REQUEST FOR A COMPLETE WAIVER OF COSTS, IN THE
AMOUNT OF $4,310, FOR THE CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY PARTY
EVENT ON DECEMBER 19, 19911, AT THE MIAMI BEACH
CONVENTION CENTER.
WHEREAS, the Children's Cancer Caring Center (Center) is a unique organization which
provides care for children afflicted with cancer; and
WHEREAS, the Center has requested a waiver of all costs associated with its use of the
Miami Beach Convention Center for its holiday party, on December 19, 1998; and
WHEREAS, this event has been held at the Convention Center for thirteen (13) years at "no
cost", and its revenue was not budgeted.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, retroactively approve the Children's Cancer
Caring Center's request for a complete waiver of costs, in the amount of $4,310, for the
children's holiday party event on December 19, 1999, at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

COSTS FOR THE CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY PARTY EVENT TOTALLING
$4,310.00, ON DECEMBER 19, 1998, AT THE MIAMI BEACH
CONVENTION CENTER.
ADMINISTRA TION RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
F or the past 13 consecutive years, the City of Miami Beach has approved the use of the Miami
Beach Convention Center for a holiday party in December for the children undergoing treatment at
the Children's Cancer Caring Center. The party, which took place on December 19, 1998, is done
annually under the auspices of Ms. Lee Klein by this unique organization which provides care for
children afflicted with cancer.
In previous years, the Center has been provided free of charge for this wonderful event. In 1997,
the Convention Center Advisory Board approved an at-cost reduction of $988.44 from the rack rate
of $4,310.00, resulting in an estimated cost to the client of $3,321.56. A further reduction for the
event was granted by Commission Resolution No. 97-22592, approving the waiver of the total
remaining charges of$3,321.56, resulting in no charge to the client. Due to the late contracting
of this year's event, the organizer's were unable to be placed on an agenda of the Advisory Board
for an at-cost approval of $3,321.56. The rack rate was $4,310.
ANALYSIS:
The Administration would normally not recommend waiver of costs for events at the Convention

Center unless the waiver amount was approved and taken into consideration during the preparation
of the budget. However, the Children's Cancer Caring Center is a unique organization which
provides care for children afflicted with cancer. This event has been held at the Convention Center
for 13 years at "no cost", and its revenue was not budgeted for and it incurs minimal expenses to the
Center's operating budget. Therefore, it is because of these reasons that the Administration
recommends retroactive waiver of the costs for this event.
CONCLUSION:
This is a worthwhile event for the children; therefore, this resolution should be approved.
