99-23018 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 99-23018 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE AWARD OF ADDITIONAL GRANT MONEY, IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,000, FOR THE PERIOD OF FEBRUARY 1, 1999, TO JANUARY 31,2000, FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, HIGH INTENSITY DRUG TRAFFICKING AREA (HIDT A), FOR THE PURCHASE OF POLICE RADIOS FOR THE NEW MONEY LAUNDERING TASK FORCE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Police Department was awarded a grant in the amount of $344,549,00, from the United States Department of Justice, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDT A) Program; and WHEREAS, on November 18, 1998, the Mayor and City Commission, pursuant to Resolution No, 98-22967 authorized the acceptance of the grant; and WHEREAS, the Department of Justice notified the Miami Beach Police Department that it will provide an additional $24,000 in grant funding to increase the grant award to $368,549, for the purchase of police radios for the new Money Laundering Task Force; and WHEREAS, the additional grant funding is for the period of February I, 1999, to January 31,2000; and WHEREAS, there are no matching funds required by the City, NOW THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission herein accept the award of additional grant money, in the amount of $24,000, for the period of February 1, 1999, to January 31, 2000, from the United States Department of Justice, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), for the purchase of police radios for the New Money Laundering Task Force. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Adopt the Resolution. BACKGROUND On November 18, 1998, the Mayor and City Commission accepted a grant award from the United States Department of Justice, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Program (HIDT A), in the amount of $344,549. The Police Department has been notified by the Department of Justice that they will fund an additional $24,000 for the purchase of police radios for the new Money- Laundering Task Force. By accepting the additional $24,000, the grant will total $368,549. The additional funding will coincide with the date of the original grant. There are no matching funds required by the City.
