LTC 176-2004 Seniors VS Crime Store Front Office Project CITY OF MIAMI BEACH Office of the City Manager Letter to Commission No. 176-2004 To: From: Subject: Mayor David Dermer and Members of the City Commission Jorge M. Gonzalez City Manager SENIORS VS CRIME STORE FRONT OFFICE PROJECT Date: July 13, 2004 This Letter to the City Commission is to provide information on the Police Department's Seniors vs. Cdme Storefront Office in the Community Room on the first floor of the Police Station and invite the Mayor and Commissioners to attend the opening ceremony. The pdmary goal of this program is to reduce the victimization of senior citizens who are often targeted for specific crimes based on their age, This program will provide senior citizens a user friendly venue to report cdmes and seek assistance when needed. There are 15 other storefront projects currently operating in the State of Flodda. The Store Front Office in the Police Department would be the first of its kind in Miami-Dade County. The Attorney Generals Office has long expressed a desire to establish a project location in this region. The plan is to use the Miami Beach Police Department as the prototype for additional Seniors vs. Crime Storefront offices in adjacent municipalities. To further emphasize the importance of this venture, Attorney General Chadie Cdst is planning to attend the opening of the Miami Beach Store Front project. The ceremony will take place on July 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Please join the Police Department in welcoming Attorney General Charlie Crist and recognizing this significant advancement in establishing a bridge to a segment of the community that is often forgotten.
