Kasdin and Members of the City Commission FROM: Sergio Rodriguez City Manager SUBJECT: Improving N At the June 9, 1999 City Commission Meeting, Commissioner Smith raised concerns on the inadequacy of the delivery of City Services in the Biscayne Beach area of North Beach, specifically, 79th - 85th Streets, Crespi/Hawthorne area. The area was inspected by Service Delivery Manager Lynn Bernstein, and a list of issues was developed and forwarded to the appropriate City departments. Corrective action has been taken as follows: SANIT A TION Issues: 1. Trash on the streets surrounding Crespi Park 2. 8125 Crespi - furniture in gutter 3. 85th and Crespi - discarded couch 4. 601 86th Street - Trash on sidewalk Action: Sanitation has scheduled an area cleanup each Thursday, The cleanup includes a hand crew and street sweeper. The bulk pick up truck is scheduled to go through the area daily. The program is in operation. P ARKS MAINTENANCE Issues: 1. Crespi - (across from park -- weeds around telephone poles) 2. Litter in Crespi Park Action: Crespi Park has been cleaned by Parks Maintenance and they will continue to maintain the area. CODE ENFORCEMENT Issues: 1. 8350 Byron - not sure if building is preparing for painting or paint is horribly chipped* 2. 700 86th Street - shed with numerous signs and advertisements** Action: *Case has gone to the Special Master. Owner has been given 120 days to comply. * * A violation has been issued. GRAFFITI Issues: 1. 8501 Crespi - utility box and stop sign 2, 85th Street bridge - off Byron 3. North Shore Tennis Center - west side screens (green) 4. 73rd Street west of Harding - utility box Action: The City's Graffiti removal team is in the process of removing the graffiti. The North Beach Task Force, working with Captain Alamo and Captain Skinner, along with the North Beach Development Corporation and various City departments, has targeted this area over the last three years. The Task Force meets the first Tuesday of each month at 2PM, at the North Beach Police Sub Station. The Task Force focuses on concerns throughout the North Beach area. The Service Delivery Manager will continue to monitor conditions in the area, working with the various City departments to ensure improvements.
